Dhaka, July 30 (bdnews24.com) – The foreign minister has urged the Indian home minister to use his good offices to put a complete halt to frequent incidents of firing by BSF on innocent and unarmed Bangladeshi nationals.

"Recurrence of these incidents does not reflect the excellent bilateral relations that the two countries share," Dipu Moni told P Chidambaram when he called on her at her office on Saturday afternoon, said a press statement from the ministry.

The Indian home minister is on a two-day official visit to Bangladesh on the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart.

On the issue of border management, the foreign minister said that the two sides must strengthen their efforts to stop criminal activities along the border, particularly smuggling of drugs and human trafficking.

Moni expressed satisfaction at the level of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of security, border management and the work to resolve the long-pending issue of demarcation of land boundary and the ones related to it.
