Dhaka, July 28 (bdnews24.com) – Indian home minister P Chidambaram has arrived in the capital on a two-day official visit.

He landed at the Shahjalal International Airport at 10:55pm on Friday. He was received by his Bangladeshi counterpart Shahara Khatun at the airport.

The Indian minister comes on an invitation extended by the Bangladesh home minister.

During his visit, the Indian home minister is scheduled to call on prime minister Sheikh Hasina, according to a press statement from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

Chidambaram is also scheduled to meet foreign minister Dipu Moni.

He will have comprehensive talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart as the two sides are expected to review cooperation in the fields of security and border management, and other related issues.

The bilateral relation has been looking up since the implementation of the comprehensive and forward-looking Joint Communiqué adopted in January 2010 during the visit of Hasina to India.

There have been regular high-level exchanges between the two countries ahead of the forthcoming visit of Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh on September 6-7.

Bangladesh and India share enduring fraternal, linguistic and cultural ties and also a common history of struggle and liberation.
